2000 Ford Crown Victoria Battery Drain
To check for battery drain you can check the lighting control module. Specifically the black connector (C2029). The #1 pin goes to a flasher relay that is a police option installed at the factory. Removing this relay, that is located in the trunk, out of the circuit will solve the problem.
Belt Tensioner Service Reminder
Noise, rust bleed, hindering spring force may indicate tensioner failure. Automatic serpentine belt tensioners are designed to last, but failure can occur when internal bushing surfaces or the spring components wear out.
According to Gates Corporation engineers, a rattling noise while the engine is operating is one indication that the bushing surfaces within the tensioner have worn and replacement is needed.
Rust is another problem. Trapped dirt and grit will wear away the rust inhibitors from flat spring tensioners. Rust weeping from an automatic tensioner is a good indication that the flat spring is worn and the tensioner needs to be replaced.
Spring operation also may affect belt drive performance. With the engine off, use a tensioner tool to move the arm through its range of motion. There should be resistance without sticking or grinding. If there is, internal components are worn and the spring is rubbing on something inside.
Other indicators of impending tensioner failure are excessive pulley wear, tensioner misalignment and improper belt tracking.
If any of these symptoms are present, replace the tensioner.
