The alternator in this car looks similar to other units, but there is only half of the regulator (field control unit) inside of the unit. The other half (control circuit) is in the vehicle computer (PCM). The computer drives the field control. Jumping a hot wire to the “D” (driver) terminal will ruin the field control immediately.
If the alternator produces current without the plug in, the field control unit is shorted (defective).
If the alternator will not produce current with the plug in you can bypass the “Field Control” unit by grounding the (F2) field terminal (see picture).
This terminal inside the alternator is difficult to reach and may be covered with insulating material. If the alternator produces current after grounding the (F2) field terminal then the field control units inside the alternator is bad and the alternator should be repaired or replaced. Grounding the F2 on the 13883 is not possible.
