ACC Problem
Problem: 1994 & 1995 Saab 900 were equipped with ACC (automatic climate control). As a result the fan for the cabin temperature, which is supposed to only run for four minutes once the vehicle is shut off, will run continuously when the vehicle is not running. As a result, it appears that repeatedly discharged batteries are caused by poorly performing alternators. Saab has determined that a short in the ACC ECM causes this condition.
Solution: Pin no. 3 of the ECM needs to be grounded with the use of some black .5 sq. mm wire, and cable terminal (Saab part no. 41 15 499) and a wire splice connector (Saab part no. 95 60 012).
Starter Problems
Problem: Many early model Saab vehicles may experience a hard start or no start situation. The starter may turn slowly or not at all upon key activation. A voltage drop test is strongly recommended. A minimum of 9 volts is required at the starter solenoid connection.
Solution: The installation of a starter relay kit may be required if proper voltage cannot be reached at the solenoid connection. Saab has created a starter relay kit (part no. 191-911-251), which will ensure proper amperage and voltage at the solenoid connection.

Problem: The nut of the starter motor’s positive connection can loosen on a 2000 9-5 Aero so that the contact surface oxidizes. This condition causes poor contact and can result in the motor not cranking.
Solution:
1. Detach the negative cable from the battery.
2. Detach the positive cable from the starter motor.
3. Clean the starter motor contact surfaces, nut and positive cable connection. Use brush and universal oil.
4. Connect the positive cable to the starter motor. Tightening torque: 10Nm(7lb. –ft.).
5. Connect the battery negative cable.
6. Adjust the time and date in SID.
7. Check the function of the starter motor.
