Lincoln and Lexus Car Problems
November, 1999

|
Vehicle: 1989 Lincoln Continental
Engine: 3.8L
This vehicle has a battery drain overnight. The problem has been traced to the alternator
control unit which is part of the heated windshield circuit. How can I disconnect the
heated windshiel and bypass this relay? The customer does not want to spend the money
to fix it, and being in Texas has no use for the windshield function.
Fix: Ford TBS 94-24-1 details how to disable the Heated windshield on various 1986-
1992 Ford/Mercury and Lincoln vehicles.
In summary:
1) Remove the wire from terminal #1 of the Heated Windshield Control Module and
insulate the end with tape.
2) Remove the wire from the ‘MOD’ terminal on the alternator Output Control Relay and
insulate it as well.
3)Disconnect the ‘BAT’ and ‘ALT’ wires from the same relay and bolt them both to the
‘ALT’ terminal on the relay.
This eliminates the relay and prevents the Heated Windshield Switch from working. The
regulator, stator and ignition circuits also run through this module. This can be bypassed
by jumping out pins 7 to 8 and 13 to 14 at the Control Module Harness.
Vehicle: 1992 Lexus ES300
The small white wire in the alternator harness must be hot all the time. If not, the
alternator will charge at full output on a constant basis. Alternator part number: 13396
