Cold Weather F150-250-350

January, 2000

It is a well known fact that batteries do not perform well in cold weather. They
still provide high currents but, because the internal resistance increases as the
temperature goes down, it is the increasing voltage drop which takes away
battery performance. At 32° F only 65% of starting power is available from the
battery.
This will cause excessive draw from the starter making it seem as though
the starter is failing. It may also cause your alternator to work harder which will
shorten its life.
Ford has issued a TSB for replacing 65 amp alternator to 95 amp
alternator. Service kit number F3P2-103466-G. This change is found on its early
1990’s F series.
